Night of 1,000 Artists: Community, Collaboration + Art Close to Home

Night of 1,000 Artists: From an Idea to a Hudson Valley-Wide Event

A few months ago, I shared that I was working on something exciting with the Chronogram Foundation. Now that everything is officially out in the world, I can finally share more about it!

Together with my friend Rhonda Shade and the incredible team at Chronogram, I’ve been helping bring Night of 1,000 Artists to life, a large-scale fundraiser, exhibition, and art sale celebrating the creative community of the Hudson Valley.

The idea behind the event is pretty simple: bring a huge number of artists together under one roof, make original artwork accessible to collectors, and raise money that goes right back into supporting the arts in our region.

Artists are invited to donate an original work on paper, no larger than 11 × 14 inches. Paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, and other works on paper are all welcome. Each piece will be exhibited and available for $150, with proceeds supporting the Chronogram Foundation and its work championing artists, strengthening our creative community, and expanding access to the arts throughout the Hudson Valley.

And yes, the goal really is 1,000 artists!

The main event takes place Friday, November 13, from 5–10 PM at The Fuller Building in Kingston, followed by a Last Chance Sale on Saturday and Sunday, November 14–15, from 12–4 PM.

Artists have until October 15 to submit, and participating artists receive free admission to opening night.

What has made this project especially meaningful for me is being involved behind the scenes and watching it grow from an idea into something very real. Working alongside Rhonda and the Chronogram team has been an incredible experience, and I’m so excited to see hundreds of artists, collectors, friends, and members of our community fill the Fuller Building in November.

If you're an artist, submit your work! If you're an art lover, come discover something new, take home an original piece, and support the Hudson Valley arts community at the same time.

A Little Closer to Home: Art at Golden Light Acupuncture

I’ve also recently had the chance to bring a collection of my work to a space much closer to home.

I just installed about 23 framed pieces at Golden Light Acupuncture in New Paltz, a wonderful holistic family practice owned by my friends and neighbors. The collection brings together different parts of my creative life, including prints from my portrait series alongside photography shot on film.

I love that this installation spans different years, mediums, and moments in my practice. My painting and photography have always been connected by an interest in people, memory, identity, and observation, so seeing them together in one space feels surprisingly natural.

There’s also something particularly special about having the work at Golden Light. Their space is warm, calm, and centered around care, and I’m incredibly grateful to have my work become a small part of that environment.

More than anything, this installation has me thinking about how fortunate I am to be part of the New Paltz and greater Hudson Valley community. So many of my friends and neighbors are artists, makers, small business owners, educators, and creative people doing meaningful things right here. Being able to support one another, collaborate, and find unexpected homes for art is a pretty wonderful thing.

Between Night of 1,000 Artists and this installation at Golden Light, community seems to be the thread running through this chapter of my studio life. And I’m very grateful for it.

Much Love,

Mari
