2025: A Year of Growth, Color, and Connection

As I settle into the studio for a new season, I’ve been taking a moment to look back at 2025. It was a year of pushing boundaries—both in the scale of my work and the reach of my artistic community.

On the Walls: Exhibitions & Fairs

Exhibiting is always a highlight because it allows the work to live in a shared space. This year, I was honored to show at several incredible venues, including Cunneen-Hackett Art Center, WAAM, Gallery 40, Unison, Arbor Gallery, Albany Center Gallery, and Full Circle. Also, starting an exciting collaboration with Art of The Blue, read all about it here. Each opening was a reminder of why I create: to spark conversation and connection.

In Print: Publications & Features

It was a thrill to see my work and my story documented in print this year. Being featured in New Visionary Magazine and the Women United Art Movement publication provided a beautiful platform to discuss the symbolism of hair, heritage, and identity that drives my portraiture.

New Works: The Evolution of the Studio

In the studio, 2025 was about expansion. I focused heavily on incorporating more intentional patterns and vibrant color palettes to celebrate resilience and heritage. One of the highlights was a quick diptych. 'Gro', a companion piece to 'Uda', allowed me to explore themes of unity and shared human experience across different generation and backgrounds.

Recognition & Milestones

I was deeply grateful to receive professional recognition this year, including accolades from HOMIENS Art Prize, the Almenara Art Prize, and the Luxembourg Art Prize. These moments of validation provide such a boost of energy when I’m back at the easel.

Looking Forward

Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you visited a show, followed along on Instagram, or collected a piece of my work, your support makes this possible. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next in 2026!

Much Love,

Mari
