On view at the Upper East Side location of Miriam Restaurant. NY, NY.

This portrait honors my aunt, Teresa, shown at age 18 from a photograph taken by my grandfather. A radiant turpial, Venezuela’s national bird, rests near her heart, symbolizing homeland, memory, and identity. As in my other works where I use pattern to evoke culture and inner life, here shadows take on that role: they’re not simply about light, but about depth, complexity, and the unseen forces that shape us. Teresa is both a personal tribute and a reflection on legacy. A layered portrait of strength, origin, and belonging.
