Ávila. 48x48in. Oil on Canvas.

Available

On view at the Upper East Side location of Miriam Restaurant. NY, NY.

Ávila features my sister as the seated figure, set within a composition rich with abstract textures and personal symbolism. The seated pose is part of a new branch in my series; one that explores stillness and introspection while allowing me to take creative risks. In these works, I lean more graphic, bringing in bold shapes and textures that draw from my background in graphic design. A replica of a Thomas Golding painting of Caracas’s Ávila mountain anchors the piece; a painting I grew up with and often studied. As a child, I would also gaze at the mountain itself, dreaming of one day painting it. By incorporating a chair from my own home and blending graphic elements with figuration, I reflect on the interwoven nature of memory, identity, and place.
