Artist Statement

My work explores the complexity of women’s identity, often through visual interplay between figure and background where elements like hair or clothing dissolve into their surroundings. This blending symbolizes how our personal identity is shaped by environment, culture, and life experience. In some paintings, I intentionally use hair as a symbolic element tied to women’s stories, power, and transformation.

Color and pattern are central to my practice—not merely decorative but evocative of cultural vibrancy, heritage, and resilience. There is a willful tug-of-war in the work between classical figuration and the bold flatness of modern visual design. I’m drawn to the tension between naturalistic rendering and the immediacy of vivid, stylized surfaces. That friction reflects both the layered nature of identity and the balancing act between tradition and contemporary expression.

At its core, my art speaks to themes of self-possession, authenticity, and empowerment, honoring the inner worlds of women while celebrating their presence in the outer one.
